Strawberries, pears, and blueberries boasted by Moscato, tonic water, lemon juice and a gentle touch of gin make the perfect white sangria for 4th of July!

You know when you move to a different country for a while, you have two choices.

#1 Change. Open your eyes and your mind to learn a new culture, to accept it, and to adapt to the new living environment.

#2 Don’t change. Ignore the local culture.

Which one would you choose? It’s pretty obvious, right?

Since holiday celebration is a big part of a local culture, I get excited during holidays here in the States due to the cheerful environment, which makes me so eager to celebrate in the American way. As I have been spending a lot of time with my parents-in-law lately, I quickly realized that they didn’t make that choice because it seems that they never celebrate any holidays in the States.

As first generation immigrants, they did everything they could to survive in their own way. From their perspective, American holidays are for Americans and there’s no point to celebrate Chinese holidays since they are not in China anymore.

That interesting logic explains why my husband Han hardly gets excited about any holidays. Time to stir things up a bit.

I am determined that I am going to change that particular piece of the family culture by taking the lead to celebrate ALL holidays.

As a result, I plan to make this beautiful white sangria for 4th of July! After indulging in a whole liter of it by myself right after I shot the photos, I am convinced that nobody is able to say no to this thing. Do you hear me? Nobody!

So if you are still working on your 4th of July menu, you need to seriously consider adding this sangria because:

With the natural color of strawberries, Bosc pears, and blueberries, the color combination of red, white, and blue is perfect for the occasion! (What other drinks can be more 4th of July?)

Moscato, tonic water, lemon juice and a gentle touch of gin generously borrow the flavor from these three types of fresh fruits after chilling for a few hours. This sangria is sweet, refreshing, crisp and super fruity.

I hope you enjoy it with your family during this upcoming 4th of July weekend. Remember, no matter what, celebrating holidays with family and friends is important. It’s worth the time and effort. Overall, it is a big deal for family life. Happy 4th of July in advance, my friend! Cheers!

Description

Strawberries, pears, and blueberries boasted by Moscato, tonic water, lemon juice and a gentle touch of gin make the perfect white sangria for 4th of July!

Ingredients

Units Scale
  • 2 cups strawberries, quartered
  • 1 cup blueberries
  • 34 Bosc pears, cut into star shape (2 cups pear stars)
  • 2 (750ml) bottles Moscato
  • 1 cup tonic water
  • 1/2 cup Gin
  • 1/2 cup fresh lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Peel pears and cut them into 1/3-inch slices with the cores. Use a star-shaped cookie cutter to cut the pear slices. Discard seeds in pear stars if any. You want 2 cups of pear stars.
  2. Quarter strawberries.
  3. Place all fruits into a large (2-liter) pitcher. Pour Moscato, Gin, tonic water, and lemon juice into the pitcher. Stir gently and let the sangria chill in your fridge for 4 hours. Enjoy!

Notes

If you would like your sangria to be stronger, feel free to add a bit more Gin according to your liking. You could also divide the ingredients into two portions and use 2 1-liter pitchers or carafes for this white sangria as indicated by the pictures in this post.
